Felicia L. Kenny is a special education teacher from New Jersey and the author of “Two Worlds, One Family”. This book was inspired by a simple and honest moment with her young daughter, who noticed the different skin colors in her own family. That moment stayed with Felicia. As a mother of two biracial children, she wanted to create a story that speaks to children in a clear and gentle way. Her goal was never to explain race in a complex way, but to show how children naturally see love, family, friendship, and belonging without judgment. This is her first published book, written straight from real life and real feelings.
“I wrote this book with children in mind, but also for the adults who read with them. Kids do notice differences, but they don’t attach meaning to them the way we sometimes do. My hope is that this story reminds us to see each other with the same kindness children naturally have.”
I didn’t expect such a simple book to say so much. My son listened quietly, then hugged me at the end. That alone made it special.

My daughter pointed at the pictures and said, ‘That looks like us.’ That moment really stayed with me. The book feels gentle and honest... without trying too hard to explain things.

I appreciate how simple the language is. My students connected with it quickly, especially those from mixed families. It feels real. Not forced.

I like books that let children think for themselves. And this book does that. The language and message are very clear, and it opens small but meaningful talks in the classroom.

This story feels safe for children. It talks about differences without making them feel confusing or heavy. I would easily recommend it to families and schools.
